Boys & Girls Club of Brazos Valley

The Boys & Girls Club here in Brazos Valley is looking for volunteers to help assist with youth development as well as a variety of tasks from helping with homework to game room and gym activities, as well as assisting with special events.

Group Volunteering (remote)

Our first group volunteering will be Enchanted Makeovers. This organization provides help and support to families who live in shelters or have suffered from homelessness. For our volunteering we will make capes (sewn or no sew) or patches to be donated to kids in the program. Instructions on how to do these will be provided.

Distributed Proofreader

Individual Volunteering (remote)

Distributed proof-readers volunteers are dedicated to preserve written works in the Public Domain in the United States by converting them into high-quality, freely available digital transcripts. They follow the principles of the American Library Association Freedom to Read statement. The e-books produced are submitted to the Project Gutenberg archive for everyone to enjoy.

iCouldBe Mentor Volunteering

Individual Volunteering (remote)

iCloudBe's mission is to empower at-risk middle and high school students to stay in school and reach their goals with the help of an online community of mentors. Volunteers are paired with a mentee in order to help them discover and plan for creative, meaningful, and productive adult lives. Volunteers meet with their mentee one-hour weekly for a school year (approximately September to June). At this moment current volunteers are being placed on a waitlist.

UPchieve Mentor Volunteering

Individual Volunteering (remote)

UPchieve is a free, online platform that connects low-income high school students in the US with live, volunteer coaches any time they need it. Volunteers work on their own schedule and as many hours as they can. Sessions are one-on-one and the topics offered are math (Algebra through Calculus), science (Biology, Chemistry, Physics), and basic college advice.

This platform is a skill based volunteer matching service. Individuals choose their skills or areas of interest and the website provides remote volunteering options they might like to participate in. Projects vary from leadership opportunities mentoring students to website development and helping with social media auditing.

Translators Without Borders

Translators Without Borders is a nonprofit organisation working to decrease language gaps for humanitarian organisations. Once you become a volunteer you can choose the project you would like to participate in. Translation texts vary from medical to crisis response.

Amnesty Decoders

Research Opportunity

Join a global network of volunteer researchers to help expose human right violations. Decoders have to analyse data, pictures, and other documents and then determine how they fit their projects. Projects vary from exposing the abuse women in power positions suffer to narrowing down the causes of oil spills.

Book Club Reader

MVLE Working with Purpose is an organisation that provides support to individuals with disabilities. Volunteers are needed to read books to a group of participants anytime from 9:00 AM to 2:30 PM. They also have opportunities for sign language interpreters, exercise instructors, social lunch mentors, speech/art therapy instructors (clinical opportunity) and more.

STEM Mentoring

TTT Mentor Program is a volunteer run non-profit organisation. Mentoring occurs only on Saturdays in small groups of students from 4th - 8th grade. Each mentor works 3 - 4 hours per week. Mentors must be at least 19 years of age.

Smithsonian Digital Volunteers

If you like art, museums, and mysteries - this is the job for you. The Smithsonian museum offers several volunteer opportunities including transcribing documents, researching and identifying images, and even updating their Encyclopedia of Life. They also offer opportunities to participate in their Smithsonian Wikipidean Volunteer Program.

Zooniverse

Individual Volunteering (remote)

Zooniverse is a people powered research website that is based on volunteers and their work. You can choose your own schedule and how much time you spend on each project. The jobs include transcribing literature manuscripts, classifying images or organisms, etc. Programs vary from investigating and fighting bacteria resistance to searching for gravitational waves.

The Borgen Project HR Internship

Individual Volunteering (remote)

The Borgen Project is an innovative, national campaign that is working to make poverty a focus of U.S. foreign policy. The Borgen Project is hiring an HR intern who will work remotely. This human resources role will focus on national recruitment and updating job postings. This is an unpaid internship, but college credit is available. The internship is 16 hours per week for 12 weeks. However, they will work around your schedule.

Tasks include:

  • updating job postings (80% of internship)

  • informing groups and classes of openings

  • taking on various tasks, as needed

  • assisting the team with fundraising (25 hours of this position is dedicated to creating and implementing a personal fundraising campaign)

  • assisting with advocacy efforts

Lauren's House 4 Positive Change - Tutor

The organisation provides a safe space for at-risk children and families. They are currently looking for tutors who will virtually help children and youth between the ages 5-18 with homework and independent reading.

TED Talk Translator

Volunteers would help translate TED talks in order to enable the inspiring ideas in them to crisscross languages and borders. Today, the organisation has more than 33,000 translators and published content in 115 languages.

Adopt a Grandparent

CHD Living is a company that owns several nursing homes in the UK. They are currently inviting English speakers from around the globe to apply online to be virtual volunteers for their "Adopt a Grandparent" program. Volunteers will be assigned a grandparent based on common interest and they will communicate with them as they wish. This is a wonderful way to keep spirits high during such hard times and make new connections around the world.

Learning Ally

Neriah Community Health Foundation - Internship

Neriah Community Health Foundation is a nonprofit organisation serving marginalised communities in Haiti to improve their quality of life. The organisation empowers underserved people by serving their healthcare needs and educating them on preventive healthcare. During this internship the individual will be in charge of assisting with the planning and management of assignments such as recruiting, selection, and training volunteers. Pre-Health Virtual Shadowing

Individual Volunteering (remote)

Pre-Health Virtual Shadowing hosts Zoom meetings every Tuesday at 7:00 Pm CST and invites doctors to discuss topics relevant to medicine. Each week you can get 2 hours of experience that may be listed under "healthcare activities/experiences" in your medical school application. Certificates of completion are awarded after a session if the corresponding assessment is passed.

Virtual Shadowing / Nano Course in Emergency Medicine

Individual Volunteering (remote)

This course is a series of 5 videos in which you can watch over the shoulder of one of our physicians, nurse practitioners, or PAs as they go bedside in the ED to assess and diagnose a simulated patient. A short quiz on the topic addressed finalizes each class. The virtual shadowing videos are free and if so desired, after successfully completing all five modules with a 100% score, students can apply for a Certificate of Completion from the University of Colorado School of Medicine for a $50 fee.

Supporting Hospice Patients

Brookdale Hospice serves a senior population who reside in both their private homes and senior living environments. They are currently looking for volunteers to help bring much needed support to their residents. Some of the responsibilities include writing personal cards to patients, companionship calls, sharing talents like drawing, and donating masks.

The Arc of San Diego

The organisation serves adults and children with developmental disabilities in our community. Due to the impacts of COVID-19, many of our clients have been unable to attend adult day programs and other in-person services. Lead a Support Group

ANAD's oldest support service are our eating disorder, self-help support groups. Support group leaders donate their time and expertise in helping people with eating disorders and their loved ones to find recovery for themselves.

AIM Mentors

Individual Volunteering

The organisation aims to inspire local high school students aspiring to ease their transition through high school towards college and careers by connecting them with mentors and providing them with resources to pursue valuable opportunities.

Requirements:

  • college mentors should be between the ages of 18-22

  • regularly meet and communicate with your mentee virtually (based on an agreed upon schedule; AT least once a month)

  • correspond with your mentee via email, text, or a video-chat platform such as Zoom or Google Meet

IMAlive Suicide Prevention Chat

Individual Volunteering

Provide support to people in crisis by becoming a volunteer for IMAlive's online crisis network. Volunteers go through a background check, take a 10 hour online crisis intervention training video course and at least 10 hours practicing with an experienced supervisor. They also commit to volunteering 200 hours to help prevent suicide via chat. Schedule is flexible and all communication takes place on IMAlive's free online chat.

Missing Maps

Individual Volunteering

This is a collaborative project between multiple Red Cross organisations, Doctors Without Borders, and several other humanitarian organisations to map areas for relief efforts. Many small villages or rural populations around the world are missing from maps that humanitarian organisations are trying to reach to provide relief efforts. Missing Maps trains volunteers on how to map these regions from home.
